How do you check if Outlook is being monitored?

I think someone at my office might be monitoring my work e-mail and I wanted to know if there was a way for me to check this without asking IT. I don't put anything in work e-mails that is not work related, except for quick notes to other employees who are friends but I want to know if someone besides my supervisor is monitoring my e-mails and know the legalities of this.
