Frankenstein help!?!?!?

What were mary shelley trying to teach us through the theme of guilt which was quite prevalent throughout frankenstein? I'm kind of confused as to what my answer should be, possibly that obsession over things may lead to a life of a guillty conscience and misery??? Any help is greatly apprecieated, thanks.
