2 sticks or 3 sticks of ram...?

I have a AMD motherboard that has 4 slots for ram. I know that AMD chipsets are dual channel and that they are sold in 1,2 and 4 sticks but I mistakenly bought 3 sticks of 2gb from Gskill. The computer is primarily for high end gaming. My question is: am I going to see better results with three sticks in or two? I have heard that with three sticks it will supposedly kick it all down to one channel but wont 6gb of ram be better than 4?
